About this catalog

What this site is, who maintains it, and how content gets here.

Big Cities Health Coalition logo

This site is maintained by Big Cities Health Coalition. It is a shared, public catalog of use cases contributed by members and reviewed by maintainers before publication.

What belongs here

The catalog collects the digital work of big-city health departments: data pipelines and integrations, analysis code, dashboards, applications, data platforms, workflow automation, data standards and governance playbooks, and AI tools. It grew out of the coalition’s Data Modernization Workgroup and one idea: reuse over reinvention. When one health department has solved a problem, the next one should be able to start from that work instead of from scratch.

Code is optional. Some entries link to an open-source repository, some offer code on request, some share templates or documentation, and some are a plain account of what was built and what it took. Each entry says which, so a reader knows what they can take away before contacting anyone.

How content gets here

  1. Anyone can propose a use case through the submission form. The form opens a GitHub issue with your answers.
  2. Automation turns the issue into a page in a pull request.
  3. A maintainer reviews the page, asks for changes if needed, and merges it.
  4. The site rebuilds and the entry is live within a couple of minutes.

Every change is versioned, so anything can be corrected or rolled back. If you spot an error on a page, use the Suggest an edit link at the bottom of that page.

The rules reviewers apply — what may be published, who reviews it, how long that takes, licensing, privacy, accessibility and what happens to an entry after it goes live — are on the governance page.
